There’s still time to enter your firm or business into the Building Magazine annual trade awards for construction. These are probably the most prestigious awards in the industry, but recently, some other awards have been introduced, to recognise contributions in newer areas, such as self-build.

So what could you enter for?

Building Magazine has a range of awards, The big ones, such as Housebuilder of the Year and Contractor of the Year, can attract major national companies. The awards also range across the building professions, including architectural practices, surveyors and construction consultants. Smaller businesses are well represented too, and many of the categories are open to both large and small projects. For example:

This is for projects of up to £5m in value, completed between March 2016 and April 2017. You can be any kind of construction firm, helping to deliver the job. Judging criteria include innovation, sustainability and teamwork with the client. Why not have a go? You’ll need to enter online by 23rd June, and there is a fee. Building Magazine Personality of the Year

Won by Sadie Morgan last year, this award is very much an open field. It’s free to nominate and you can suggest a boss, client, or colleague - you just need to give some brief reasons for your nomination. Trade awards from “On The Tools”

Many trade awards are given by the relevant trade body, or by magazines such as “On The Tools”, which has award categories such as “Electrician of the Year” and “Apprentice of the Year”. The “On The Tools” awards are sponsored by Jewson.

Trade awards from "On The Tools"

The deadline for entries this year is 9th June, but the awards open for entries in March of each year, so if you miss this one, you can get your ducks in a row for 2018. You can nominate yourself, or someone else and enter as many times as you want. The judges are well-respected construction industry professionals and like many of these awards schemes, there’s a good evening out to be had at the awards ceremony.

Entries for The Daily Telegraph’s Homebuilding and Renovating Awards 2017 close on Friday 16th June 2017. They give awards for the best self-builds, renovations and extensions, so if you’re a self-building, multi-skilled innovator, this is the one for you.
