1) Screwdriver Set – This is one of the most important tools you can have as a screwdriver set can be used for a wide variety of applications such as prying the lid off of paint cans to opening child-proof battery compartments. 2) Pliers – These are great tools to have as they are strong and have multiple uses. You can use them as a clamp as they lock in place, they can also be used as a wire cutter and many more. If there is a nail that needs removing but you are having difficulty doing so, a pair of pliers may just be the tool needed to complete the job.

3) Tape Measure – A tape measure is an essential tool, you may be getting a new carpet fitted, or perhaps some new blinds on your windows, you will need to know the correct dimensions and so a tape measure is essential. For most jobs you will want a tape measure at least 16 feet in size and ¾-wide.

4) Electric Drill – Sooner or later you are going to need a drill, there are two types of electric drills available – cordless and corded, the corded drills are generally cheaper and there is no battery to replace, however the cordless drills can be used anywhere, which one you get is up to you.

5) Torch or Work Light– Carrying out DIY work in low light or no light can be hazardous and so it is a good idea to always have a light so that you can see what you are doing, a head lamp is possible and these work very well.
